Golden Voices Concert Choir invited to perform at Lincoln Center

TUSKEGEE, Ala. (June 15, 2011) – The Tuskegee University Golden Voices Concert Choir has been invited to perform in March 2012 in New York’s historic Avery Fisher Hall at the Lincoln Center, home of the New York Philharmonic. The choir is directed by Wayne A. Barr.

The opportunity to perform at the Lincoln Center is wonderful for our students, the university and community at large,” Barr said. “It places our students on an international stage and gives Tuskegee a highly visible profile … and of course, the idea of performing in such a hallowed space is every musician's dream.”

In addition to the Golden Voices’ solo concert, the choir will combine with other singers in a mass chorus performing with Dr. Russell Robinson from the University of Florida. The Tuskegee choir and others were chosen through an audition process.

Dennis Loy, conductor-in-residence for MidAmerica Productions, the company producing the event, praised the Tuskegee choir and their optimum training.

“The choir received this invitation because of the quality of musicianship demonstrated by the performers, a clear reflection of their exceptional director, Dr. Barr, and is based on recommendation given by other music colleagues who recognize that their musical quality is deserving of MidAmerica Productions’ attention,” Loy said.
