Homecoming to celebrate the “Spirit of Tuskegee ”
TUSKEGEE, Ala. (October 25, 2013) – The Tuskegee University community is preparing to honor its traditions and celebrate its progress during a week of homecoming activities, Oct. 27-Nov. 3. This year’s homecoming theme is “Celebrating the Spirit of Tuskegee.”
There are several daily events scheduled including an address by entertainer and philanthropist, Bill Cosby. One of America’s most beloved comedians of all time, Cosby, will be the keynote speaker for the Homecoming/Charter Day Convocation Nov. 3 at 9:30 a.m. CST in Gen. Daniel “Chappie” James Arena.
The homecoming events also include concerts featuring R&B recording artists, Ledisi and August Alsina as well as rapper Migos. Daily student events for this year’s celebration kick off Oct. 27 with a Sunday’s Best gospel talent show. On Oct. 31, Miss and Mr. Tuskegee University and their courts will honor the pageantry and elegance of the university’s student royalty during the Miss Tuskegee University Gala. The event will take place in Gen. Daniel “Chappie” James Arena at 6 p.m. Nov. 1, a carnival will be held on University Avenue from 12-2 p.m. Later, a step show will be held at 7 p.m. in “Chappie” James Arena.
Nov. 2 will be a day brimming with activities including the traditional homecoming parade through the City of Tuskegee. The route begins at the university at 9 a.m. An alumni pre-game brunch will follow at Tompkins’ Hall ballroom at 10:30 a.m. At 1 p.m., the Tuskegee University Golden Tigers football team takes on Central State University in Cleve L. After the game, the night will be filled with music. The Alumni and Friends Concert will feature an acoustic set by Ledisi at 7 p.m. in Logan Hall. And, the Tuskegee University Student Government Association will hold its annual concert at 8 p.m. in in “Chappie” James Arena. Migos and August Alsina are the performers.
