Nursing program receives more than $1 million grant for nurses

TUSKEGEE, Ala. (October 4, 2013) — The Nursing Workforce Diversity Grant has rewarded Tuskegee University $1,003,014 for a project to increase the number of minority nurses. The grant period will be from July 1, 2013 to June 30, 2016.

According to the project director and professor Cordelia Nnedu: “This project addresses Title VIII of the Public Health Service Act, Section 82, which focuses on Nursing Workforce Diversity and authorizes grants to meet the cost of special projects to increase nursing education opportunities for individuals who are from minority and/or from disadvantaged backgrounds.”

The project’s activities address pre-entry preparation, recruitment and retention activities, cultural competence, and financial support through scholarships or monthly stipend.
