Students meet with corporate recruiters during career fair



TUSKEGEE, Ala. (October 4, 2011) — Tuskegee University students met with employers from various companies and agencies during the university’s fall career fair on Sept. 29 in the Kellogg Hotel and Conference Center ballroom. According to Sarah Stringer, director of career development and placement, the annual event, which targets all majors and classifications, was a major success.


 “We had over 100 employers participate this year, despite the economic climate in this country,” Stringer said.


Throughout the week, interested students participated in an interview clinic and attended a lecture on workplace survival. Informational sessions were also presented by a number of companies. 


Companies that participated in career fair activities included: 3M, Boeing, Chevron, Edward Jones, ExxonMobil, National Park Service, Pepsico, Procter and Gamble, and Walmart.


“Corporate America has really stepped up to the plate in recruiting our students,” said Tuskegee University President Gilbert L. Rochon. “This is mutually beneficial — we produce great students who make great employees.”


The Tuskegee University Career Development and Placement Services Center ensures students have a number of opportunities to participate in internships and co-ops. The office also places students with companies for full-time employment after the students graduate from the university. Stringer said the office has an average of 70 percent placement rate in all areas, collectively.
