Tuskegee resident, University featured on the Today Show

TUSKEGEE, Ala. (August 23, 2010) — Lawrence McRae, a Tuskegee resident and prostate cancer awareness advocate was recently featured on the Today Show on NBC on Tuesday, Aug. 17. McRae was chosen by AARP for their special segment, "Your Life is Calling." Popular anchorwoman Jane Pauley conducted the interview earlier this summer on the Tuskegee University campus and in the city.

"I think this feature is very good," McRae said. "This will reach a lot more people; it's another avenue to reach out to people about prostate cancer."

McRae said he has received consistent help with his efforts from the Tuskegee University National Center for Bioethics in Research and Health Care's cancer research division. Personnel have assisted with research and grants, leading to McRae becoming a visible activist in his community.

Pauley is AARP's Ambassador of "Your Life Calling." In this role, Pauley reports on how people age 50+ are reinventing the way they live and work. These episodes are featured monthly on the Today Show.

"Mr. McRae embodies the person in midlife who is living his dream … an inspiration," Pauley said.

The segment can be viewed online at aarp.org/jane.
