Tuskegee University's College of Agricultural, Environmental and Natural Sciences (CAENS, pronounced canes) offers an education that prepares future professionals and leaders in the life sciences through course work along with research and outreach activities related to their chosen majors. For the most part, we offer small classes that allow individualized instruction during the undergraduate and graduate years.
Tuskegee University is an historic campus, and our college has inherited the legacy of George Washington Carver with his many contributions to teaching, research and outreach in agriculture and new product development--aimed at serving the unreached of his time. Today, we still keep that focus on the current needs of society, including those left behind. We also dream about new ways to serve.
While equipping students with the basic knowledge and tools of their chosen fields, CAENS also tries to provide opportunities to learn about and contribute to the resolution of real-world problems. Promoting intellectual curiosity, focusing on critical thinking and systematic problem-solving, and providing experience in cooperative teamwork are ways CAENS does this. The goal is that students receive an education that will enable them to contribute to their professions and their communities as future leaders. We’ve been doing this for over 125 years!
