Biochemistry
The increasing importance of biotechnology and biochemistry sparked the development of a two-tier biochemistry curriculum at Tuskegee. A new class, BIOL/CHEM 360, the Biochemistry of Cell Regulation and its accompanying laboratory BIOL/CHEM 361, provide a one-semester biochemistry course for undergraduates with organic chemistry. Introduction of the 300-level class has allowed the enhancement of the CHEM 561/562 class and laboratory to include research literature studies and greater use of biotechnology. This course is designed for advanced undergraduates who have taken the BIOL/CHEM 360 or for graduate students. In Spring 2002, a new course and lab, CHEM 563/564 was introduced. This allows expansion of the advanced course to include more laboratory techniques and study of lipids, carbohydrates, and nucleotide metabolism.
