Student Professional Activities

 

Department Of Nursing Committees:


Students have opportunities for input into the creation and administration of policies and regulations by which they are governed.  The Department of Nursing provides for student representation on standing committees which includes:  (1) Curriculum, (2) Educational Policy, (3) Faculty Council, (4) Library/Learning Resources.  In the College of Veterinary Medicine, Nursing and Allied Health, there is a faculty Student Relation Committee.  This committee advises the Dean on strategies that may be employed to enhance the social, intellectual, and professional environments within the College.
 
Student Nurse Association
The Tuskegee University Student Nurse Association is comprised of students who are preparing to become professional nurses.  The purpose of the Association is to assist in preparing nursing students for the assumption of professional responsibilities.  Once required fees are paid, the student will automatically hold membership in the Alabama Association for Student Nurses and the National Association for Student Nurses.  All Pre-professional Phase students enrolled in the Department of Nursing are eligible for membership and are encouraged to take advantage of the opportunity.  There will be however, professional development activities that require students' participation.  Students enrolled in the Professional Phase are required to participate in membership. 
 
Chi Eta Phi, a national nursing sorority, installed the Epsilon Beta Chapter on the Tuskegee Campus in 1952, as part of the Council of Non-Greek Organizations under the auspices of Student Affairs.  The purposes of the sorority are:
 
 1.  To encourage the pursuit of continuing education among members of the nursing profession.
 2.  To have a continuous recruitment program for nursing and the health profession.
 3.  To develop working relationships with other professional groups for the improvement and delivery of health care services.
 4.  To develop working relationships with other professional groups for the improvement and delivery of health care services.
 5.  To identify constantly a corps of nursing leaders within the membership who will function as agents of social change on the national, regional and local level. 
    
Candidates for membership are selected on the basis of academic standing, evidence of professional leadership potential, and satisfactory performance in the Department of Nursing.
