Tuskegee Institute, AL--Antrell Demarcus Kidd, aTuskegee University junior majoring in Mechanical Engineering, successfully completed the 2005 NASA Spaceflight and Life Sciences Training Program (SLSTP) at Kennedy Space Center, Florida, this summer. Antrell conducted research (The Effects of Volatile Organic Compounds on the Growth of Radish Seedlings) at KSC this summer. Antrell is the son of Rodney and Mildred Funderburg of Sylacauga , AL .
SLSTP is a highly competitive program for college undergraduates majoring in the life sciences, physical sciences, mathematics, engineering, and computer science. For six years, the College of Agricultural, Environmental and Natural Sciences has been coordinating the application and selection process for NASA in its attempt to interest budding scientists and engineers to consider careers with the space agency.
In an intensive six-week summer program, students from across the U.S. participate in the conceptualization, design, and execution of experiments dedicated to enabling human exploration of space as well as assessment of the environmental impacts of a launch site.
The program emphasizes the unique features of experiments conducted in the spaceflight environment and the challenges associated with planning and conducting long-duration spaceflight missions and experiments.
