ROCKETS program

ROCKETS program

ROCKETS, which stands for Resarch and Organic Chemistry to Kindle Excellence in Tuskegee Scientists and Engineers, is an Honors Organic Chemistry program.  The participation is limited to 15 students per year.  The student can come from any major which requires organic chemistry.  The expectation is that participants will have at least a 3.0 CGPA and B’s in General Chemistry.  The program was first offered during Summer 2005 with 13 participants.

In the summer part of the program, students take Honors Organic Chemistry I lecture and laboratory, Introduction to Research, and perform research under the guidance of a mentor in their major.  Field trips and speakers are also arranged.  Tuition, room and board, and books are provided by the program.

During the fall semester, students complete Honors Organic Chemistry II lecture and laboratory.  Additionally, summer participants may apply for research stipends which are awarded competitively.  Student travel awards are also available for presenting research results at meetings and conferences.
