2007 September Symposium
The 2007 September Symposium was the third of its nature to be held at Tuskegee University highlighting the research accomplishments of Tuskegee University's science and engineering majors. This year the event was September 28th from 2-4pm at the Kellogg Conference Center and was attended by more than 40 guests. There were 15 outstanding students whose work was showcased. This year's keynote speaker was the new head of the Biology Department, Dr. Danielle Gray. Students could browse an array of information on graduate schools or a buffet of hors d' oeuvres and punch.
Upon completion of judging, votes were tallied and the winners were announced at the conclusion of the symposium. Janice Thomas was awarded first place, followed by Joe Owens and Khalifa Jordan commandeering second and third places, respectively. All participants were granted a certificate of participation.
The poster presentations by the students ranged from chemistry to mathematics to biomedical research. Presentations from the on-campus summer research programs were given, as well as several from students who had worked at other universities for the summer. A list of the posters presented follows.
Sharee Small, DUR, said "I am really proud of all the students and their advisors for putting forth the hard work and energy to participate in this event, thereby making it a success. I feel like it was well worth the effort we put into making it happen after seeing the students so excited to discuss their research. Witnessing the students' pleasure with the atmosphere of the Kellogg Center, makes me eager to prepare for the 2008 symposium. I want to continue to reward the students for all of their efforts in being young researchers; this is such a wonderful experience for growth academically as well as personally."
