Position:                    Secretary

Location:                   College of Arts and Sciences/English

(This is a Full-time position)

Essential Duties

·        Open and close the English office at the beginning and end of each business day

  • Type and print/copy letters, memos, lists, reports, classroom materials, and other materials as required by the department
  • Prepare IVs, check requests, requisitions, and other institutional forms
  • Organize and maintain office files
  • Answer telephones, direct calls, and take messages
  • Receive visitors
  • Distribute mail and notices as directed
  • Maintain furniture and equipment inventories
  • Request repair service for office equipment
  • Arrange meetings and schedule appointments
  • Supervise student workers and submit payroll sheets
  • Operate office machines such as computers, typewriters, calculators, copiers, and fax machines

·        Pick up and deliver correspondence and other materials

  • Assist with arrangements for special events
  • Perform other related duties as assigned


  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • At least two years of secretarial experience
  • Ability to communicate in the English Language
  • Knowledge of standard English grammar, punctuation, and mechanics
  • Knowledge of standard office practices and procedures
  • Ability to type a minimum of 45 Net Words/Min with accuracy (TEST SHOULD BE TAKEN BEFORE SUBMISSION OF APPLICATION)
  • Knowledge of computers and related applications such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Must be a team player

Additional Desirable Qualifications

Associate Degree in Secretarial Science preferred


Commensurate with training, experience, and University Compensation Plan
