Head of Technical Services
Tuskegee University Library Services invites applications to fill a tenure-track position as a librarian beginning June 1, 2011. The candidate must possess good organizational skills and have the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Primary responsibilities include: performing original and complex copy cataloging of library materials in various formats and subjects; serving as resource person for bibliographic control; assisting with maintenance of the online catalog (SIRSI); performing all authority work; formulating cataloging policies and procedures; coordinating all the submissions for acquisitions from university personnel; participating directly in acquiring materials through the perusal of catalogs, journals, etc; coordinating collection development and maintenance through additions and deaccessioning; supervising one library assistant and student workers; work nights and weekends as assigned; perform other related duties as assigned by the Director of Library Services
Qualifications
Master’s degree from an ALA-accredited program; a strong interest in and coursework related to cataloging; knowledgeable of AACR2, MARC formats, LC subject headings, LC classification, OCLC and automated library systems; familiar with collection development at the university level. Possess excellent communication, interpersonal, and computer skills.
