Position:                     Library Assistant-Washington Collection/Rare Book Room


Location:                    Hollis Burke Frissell Library           

                     

                                                Full-time                                                                                 

Essential Duties

  • Coordinate, organize and administer the daily operations of the Washington Collection/Rare Book Room
  • Provide assistance in the use of the collection to library patrons
  • Select books for acquisition
  • Handle correspondences that pertain to the Washington Collection/Rare Book Room
  • Prepare annual reports
  • Develop and maintain a manual of work routines for smooth operations
  • Maintain records and statistics
  • Maintain shelves
  • Schedule, train, assign duties and supervise the work of student assistants in order to ensure high quality services to patrons
  • Work nights and weekends on a rotating basis
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in History or related field
  • One year of experience in higher education
  • Ability to function in an automated library environment
  • Ability to meet the public pleasantly
  • Supervisory ability
  • Good organizational and problem solving skills
  • Good oral and written communication skills

Additional Desirable Qualifications

  • Master’s degree
  • Courses in library science

Salary

Commensurate with training experience, and University Compensation Plan
