Position:                     Research Associate

Location:                    Pathobiology/College of Veterinary Medicine, Nursing and Allied Health

(This is a Full-time position)

The Department of Pathobiology laboratory is seeking a Research Associate to work on recently funded cancer research projects. The Research Associate will work with Dr. Samuel, other lab members and collaborators to accomplish the objectives of the proposed research project. While previous experience or knowledge about in vitro and in vivo models of cancer is a plus, eagerness to work and motivation to learn these new approaches in both cell culture and in vivo models is essential.

Essential Duties

  • Conduct in vivo and in vitro experiments as instructed by the PI
  • Plan, coordinate, and execute experiments; collect, systematically compile, and organize data from both in vitro and in vivo experiments
  • As necessary, run and maintain tissue culture laboratory, coordinate the routine activities and procedures in the tissue culture room and in the animal facility
  • Maintain and catalog cell lines used in the projects
  • Work with animal facility personnel to
  • Manage cell/molecular biology laboratory and laboratory personnel
  • Supervise and assist research students in the laboratory
  • Be actively involved in collaborative projects run with other PIs
  • Plan and coordinate experiments, including collaborative experiments, and present data to the PI
  • Develop and maintain laboratory procedures necessary for the conduct of experiments, keep a laboratory notebook
  • Keep inventory of laboratory equipment and supplies, and re-stock as needed
  • Obtain quotes, follow through purchase requisitions, purchase order and receivables
  • Inform the PI or other responsible persons of any irregularities in the laboratory and common areas
  • Adhere to all guidelines of biosafety and other compliance-related issues as defined by Tuskegee University
  • Report to work at the designated laboratories
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the PI


  • Minimum of a Bachelor Degree in life sciences or related area
  • Knowledge of MS-word, excel, and basic graphics
  • Motivation to learn new skills and methods
  • Good communication skills (students, vendors, PIs…) and ability to work with others, and supervise students

Additional Desirable Qualifications

  • Hands-on experience in in vitro and in vivo experiments is preferred
