Herman J. Russell
Herman J. Russell, ('53), has made his mark in the business world. For more than 30 years, he has been "making things happen" in the business world--through H. J. Russell & Company, Paradise Apartments Management Company, Inc, Concessions International, Inc, H. J. Russell Construction Company, Inc, Interstate Construction Company, Inc, Georgia Southeastern Land Company, Gibraltar Land, Inc, Diversified Project Management, and Russell-Row Communications, Inc.
A member of the First Atlanta Corporation, the Atlanta Chamber of Commerce, the Atlanta Commerce Club, the Business Council of Georgia, Russell is also active in the civic community.
After graduating from Tuskegee Institute (now University) in 1953 with a B.S. degree in Building Construction, he returned to Atlanta to work alongside his father as a plastering subcontractor. In 1953, the son extended his father's business into general contracting and then on to large-scale construction. Hence, H. J. Russell & Company was born.
His achievement and humanitarian awards are numerous and include the Tuskegee University Alumni Merit Award, the Jewish National Fund "Tree of Life" Award, the Martin Luther King Center for Nonviolent Social Change Salute to Greatness Award, and the National Black College Alumni Hall of Fame Award.
