Organic Agriculture Hands-on Training for Extension Personnel in the Southeast

Sponsored by Tuskegee University Cooperative Extension Program (TUCEP) in partnership with Southern Sustainable Agriculture Research & Education (SSARE), North Carolina State University (NCSU), Alabama Sustainable Agriculture Network (ASAN), Auburn University (AU) and University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff (UAPB).

The overall objective of this training program was to enhance the knowledge base and practical skills of Extension personnel, NRCS personnel, mentor farmers and other educators, in organic agriculture. The two-day workshop involved intensive training on the following topics: General Principles of Organic Production; Overview of the Organic Farming Industry; Healthy Soils and Good Agricultural Practices (GAPS):  The Foundation of a Good Organic System; Organic Pest Management; Organic Farming and Food Safety; Economics of Organic Farming; Marketing of Organic Products; and Organic Standards and Certification.
