THE 4-H YOUTH PROGRAM FOCUS:
4-H has always emphasized the importance of developing passionate, well-informed citizens who are involved in their communities and help to foster positive social change. Civic engagement helps young people understand the big picture and learn skills that will encourage them to become engaged, responsible citizens and successful leaders. With 4-H citizenship programs, youth learn how to lead, make decisions, and contribute to their communities from an early age.
Policy Education and Civic Engagement (PEACE)
Engaging youth in communities, schools and the civic process is critical to the success of many youth and a positive influence on the healthy development of all youth. Providing role models, working with mentors and connecting kids to caring adults are all things that make it easier for youth to turn away from negative influences and continue on a path to successful citizenship and adulthood. TUCEP is engaging youth in the Black Belt region of Alabama through the PEACE curriculum to inculcate in them the tenets of positive youth development. The goal of PEACE is to foster the civic competence of young people by building the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary for empowering young people to effect community action.
