K-12 Outreach Activities

Our scientists continue to provide mentorship to K-8 and high school students through various activities and programs. The Summer Apprenticeship Program allows rising high school seniors and juniors to work alongside scientists in their laboratories to expose the students to scientific research. Research problems are in some way connected to USDA-sponsored research of the George Washington Carver Agricultural Experiment Station or NASA-funded research at the Center for Food and Environmental Systems for Human Exploration of Space (CFESH). The apprenticeship program has resulted in increased high school student interest in the sciences and subsequent enrollment in these disciplines in college. Tuskegee University's program is funded by USDA and NASA.
