Dissertation: “The Free Radical Addition of Polyhalomethanes to Norbornenyl Systems”
Current research interests center on an understanding of polymer chemistry and on “green chemistry”. The characterization and application of an anti-corrosion marine coating with various natural active ingredients has been done in collaboration with Alexandria University in Egypt. Studies involving various unique polymer coatings incorporating nanomaterials for the protection of steel have also been done. Collaboration with Assiut University in Egypt involved the utilization of modified bagasse as an oil-absorbing material, as well as for other value-added applications. Considerable work has been done involving the use of phenol-formaldehyde resins for engineering applications, including chemical modifications of the resin. Earlier work includes the synthesis and characterization of novel coatings, of preceramic polymers, and of polynucleotide analogs. A good portion of this work has been done in collaboration with engineering colleagues.
