Department of Mathematics
The mission of the department of mathematics at Tuskegee University provides an environment of learning that fosters competency, growth, and appreciation of mathematics in diverse fields such as engineering, architecture, and business. Mathematics majors acquire essential knowledge for successful graduate study, research, and concentration in specific areas of the discipline.
The department of mathematics is committed to developing in each student the understanding of mathematical concepts necessary for participation in today's highly technical society. It further seeks to prepare the student for the application of mathematics in his chosen career field.
B.S. Degree in Mathematics
Located within the College of Arts and Sciences, the department of mathematics offers a program of study leading to the Bachelor of Science degree with a major in mathematics. Through rigor, challenge and interaction, the department equips the student with an in-depth understanding of the principles of calculus and its application and knowledge of mathematics in the fields of linear algebra, abstract algebra, differential equations, probability and statistics, modern geometry, and real and complex analysis. Students develop the ability to think critically, construct mathematical proofs, and communicate mathematics in written and oral forms.
