The Department is known for its rigorous program which prepares graduates for generalist practice as well as graduate education.
Tuskegee University Department of Social Work has garnered a reputation for preparing students for the social work profession. They are highly sought after by social service agencies around the country as well as graduate programs which offer an Advanced Standing masters degree in Social Work.
In the Field Practicum, students get an opportunity to apply the Generalist Practice modalities in a host of settings such as Hospitals, including the VA Hospitals, Schools, Nursing Homes, Mental Health, Centers, Department of Corrections, Department of Family and Children Services, Community Organizations and Faith-based programs.
In these areas of Practice, students use the Generalist Social Work perspective which engages the micro, mezzo, and macro principles of the profession. Some of the skills employed include: Engagement, Assessment, Evaluation and Termination. Understanding that the context of practice is dynamic, students recognize that the social worker through their knowledge base as well as their years of experience will use their skill sets to obtain necessary resources from the Community. Social Workers will also use these resources to enhance their client's capacity for social functioning and create societal conditions that are favorable to their goals.
Why not consider a career in Social Work? It is through this profession that one can really help others.
