SCHOLARSHIPS IN THE DEPARTMENT OF SOCIAL WORK
1.The Theartice Gentry Memorial Book Scholarship- Five Hundred Dollars
This book scholarship is given in memory of Dr. Theartice Gentry, to two students (250.00 each )in the Department of Social Work who has demonstrated strong participation in public service and volunteerism, and has a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or better. Dr. Gentry’s widow-Mrs. Hattie Gentry, his family and friends give this scholarship to recipients selected by the head of the Department of Social Work.
2. The Rose A. Johnson Memorial Social Work Award-Two Hundred Fifty Dollars
This award is given to a junior or senior Social Work Major who is in good academic standing and has a documented financial need.. The recipient is awarded for his or her commitment to the study of Social Work involving the application of social theory and research methods and also to study and improve the lives of people, groups and societies. Mrs. Sharon C. Johnson Arthur donates the award in memory of her mother, Mrs. Rose Alice Barney Johnson. Mrs. Johnson attended Tuskegee Institute(now Tuskegee University)in the 1940’s. She did not graduate but it was her fondest desire to do so. Mrs. Johnson died April11,2004
3. The Dorothy Gaithers Scholarship Award- Mrs. Dorothy Maye Jordan-Gaithers is a 1944 graduate of Tuskegee (Institute) University. Mrs. Gaither’s daughters established this scholarship award on her ninetieth birthday so that she could play an active role in cultivating passionate servant leaders who will follow in her footsteps. The family determines the amount of the award.
To qualify as an applicant for this scholarship Students:
You must be a current student in the School of Social Work at Tuskegee University.
You must possess a GPA of 2.5 or above.
You must be committed to pursuing a career in social work.
You should demonstrate qualities of a "Servant Leader."
You should be active in Christian service.
Preferably, possess other creative gifts and talents.
