Minority Serving Institution Scholarship Reservation (MSISR)

[MSISR was formerly known as the Historically Black College and University (HBCU) Scholarship]

The MSISR scholarship is open to high school students of any race or ethnicity with academic potential to excel in a college environment including all high school seniors as well as college students who have completed 29 or fewer college credit hours with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75 and no grade below a "C" in any course attempted.  For High School seniors to be eligible for consideration, they must meet at least one of the following three criteria:

  1. Achieve a 3.00 or higher GPA on a 4.00 scale;
  2. Place in the Top 40% of their class;
  3. Have completed 4 years of English, 3 years of math and natural science, and 2 years of social science.

In addition, you must take either the ACT or SAT and attend a Historically Black College or University (HBCU) or High Hispanic Enrollment (HHE) that has an NROTC unit to be eligible for this program.  These scholarships are nationally competitive and applicants are encouraged to go beyond the minimum requirements in addition to participating in extra-curricular and civic activities, especially those that involve a leadership role (team captain, organization or class president, etc.) A list of Naval ROTC HBCU/HHEs can be found on the main NROTC website here: https://www.nrotc.navy.mil/MSI.aspx

Applicants must have attained scores of at least 500 in Math and 500 in Critical Reasoning on the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT), or 21 in Math and 20 in English on the American College Test (ACT) taken no earlier than two years from the date of the application. A combined test score using the highest component Math and Critical Reasoning/English scores for either SAT or ACT test may be used.

In addition to the application below, all applicants applying on or before 31 January must complete the NROTC National Scholarship web application (at www.nrotc.navy.mil) for scholarships commencing in the fall academic term. If applying after 31 January, applicants must download and complete the PDF version of the application available on the website: http://www.nrotc.navy.mil/MSI.aspx. Applicants must contact the NROTC host unit at the MSI they wish to attend for processing of their MSI nomination.

You should apply from January 1 until April 30 via the NROTC Unit of the school you wish to attend.   The Tuskegee University NROTC recruiting officer's number is (334) 724-4203 or (334) 724-4994.
