New eateries, convenience store welcomed to university
TUSKEGEE, Alabama (January 8, 2013) — Two new eateries were officially welcomed to campus during ribbon cutting ceremonies Tuesday in Margaret Murray Washington Hall. Tuskegee University President Gilbert L. Rochon, administration staff members and representatives from Thompson Hospitality cut ribbons on Austin Grille Express and Marvelous Market. Afterward, guests were treated to a sampling of the eateries’ menu items that included: chicken fingers, coffee drinks, fried pickles, fries, grilled chicken wings, hamburgers, scones and smoothies.
Before the ceremony for the two eateries, a ribbon was also cut on the former C-Store that has been renamed Red Tails Landing. Decorated with artwork and memorabilia, the interior of the convenience store now pays homage to the famed Tuskegee Airmen.
Tuskegee’s director of culinary services, Pamela Sparks-Smith, said Thompson Hospitality, the company that will now manage on-campus dining services, has improved the student dining experience.
