Tuskegee, Ala. (April 8, 2016) – The latest generation of regal student leadership was introduced Thursday during an evening of elegance at Gen. Daniel “Chappie” James Arena. The Miss Tuskegee University 2016-2017 Pageant presented the community with the group of young ladies and gentlemen who will set the tone of poise and style at the university and be servant-leaders.

After an evening of the three finalists showcasing their talent, fashion sense, and grace, De’ja Malisia Hatcher was chosen as the new Miss Tuskegee University 2016-2017. Dr. Brian L. Johnson, Tuskegee University president, placed the robe on the junior pre-health biology and nutrition science major from Byron, Ga. Morgan Janelle Dean, a junior environmental science with health option major from Montgomery, Ala., will serve as First Attendant. Jasmine Nicole Roberts, a junior agricultural business major from Montgomery, Ala., was chosen as Second Attendant.

Hatcher ran her campaign on a platform entitled, “THE REIGN OF TUSKEGEE: Redefine, Revitalize, Rejuvenate.” For the talent portion of the competition, she performed a spoken word piece demonstrating the embodiment of a Tuskegee Woman.

“I am confident in action; I am fearless… I am a Tuskegee Woman,” Hatcher said during her performance.
