Position: Research Assistant Professor                   Department: Pathobiology/CVM

Status: Full-time

Essential Duties and Job Responsibilities

  • For ensuring the laboratory, equipment and other accessories are in good working order.
  • Provide diagnostic service for food Safety and quality assurance using molecular diagnostic tools
  • Participate in the teaching and research activities of the Center
  • Ordering consumables and other supplies needed for the Center.
  • Identifying and reporting malfunctions and/or breakdowns of equipment to physical plant and other pertinent units and following up their repair.
  • Performing other duties as assigned by the Director of the Center.
  • Plan and conduct research in food safety and food animal disease and publish research results
  • Managing, reviewing, creating and maintaining relevant Food Quality and safety programs and their practice.
  • Provides Quality Control laboratory results trending information, Inventory management of materials and equipment.
  • Maintains laboratory productivity by monitoring workload of functional areas; identifying peak and slack periods; making operational or staffing adjustments.
  • Maintains quality results by participating in internal audits; reviewing quality control and quality assurance programs; making adjustments in policy and procedures; generating reports; maintaining records.
  • Manages the filing and upkeep of all laboratory documents and records along with monthly reports.
  • Implements new programs, tests, methods, instrumentation, and procedures by investigating alternatives; preparing proposals; developing and performing parallel testing; monitoring progress.

Qualifications

  • DVM or equivalent and a PhD in Pathobiology or Biomedical Sciences
  • Demonstrate experience in molecular diagnostic assays
  • Plan and conduct experimental research with food animals and food safety
  • Assist in writing and publishing research manuscripts
  • Must have good computer skills (Microsoft Office and other software programs)
  • Demonstrated collegiality and working well with others

Salary
Commensurate with education, training and experience. Salary is contingent upon outside funding.

Additional Position Information:

  • This position requires working after work hours and weekends.
  • This position is funded through restricted outside funding.
