Position:  Head Softball Coach                                                                                                                   Department: Athletics

Status: Full-Time

Special Qualifications

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Promote and administer a Division II softball program
  • Provide leadership in the coaching, scouting, planning and executing all phases of the softball program and related activities, on and off the field
  • Coordinate  and recommend softball athletic-related financial aid through the Director of Athletics, with final approval by the Director of Financial Aid
  • Direct and coordinate softball related selection and recruitment of student-athletes
  • Counsel softball student-athletes on personal matters and work to ensure their academic success and timely graduation
  • Maintain an inventory of all softball equipment and supplies
  • Recommend softball related equipment and supply purchases
  • Prepare and make budget recommendations to the Director of Athletics
  • Represent the University and its softball program to the community and alumni
  • Work within the framework of the SIAC (Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) and the NCAA Division II philosophy of athletics
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics and/or the President of the University

The Head Softball's Coach must place primary emphasis on the education and welfare of student-athletes.  The following are required:

  • The candidate should demonstrate successful coaching experience in softball, preferably at the NCAA Division II or I level;
  • Success at recruiting in the southeastern region and nationally;
  • Knowledge  of financial aid regulations and experience  in working with a combination of athletic grants and financial aid;
  • Knowledge of NCAA regulations as they relate to softball (specifically in the areas of: recruiting, financial aid, ethical conduct, amateurism, academic eligibility, rules and regulations governing  transfer athletes, and playing and practice seasons;
  • Must be committed to and understand the role of intercollegiate athletics within the framework of the mission of the University; and
  • Maintain a high level of personal/professional  integrity

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Relevant coaching or playing experience
  • Effective Communication,  Organizational  and Interpersonal Skills
  • Experience in coaching at the high school or collegiate level

Additional Desirable Qualifications

  • Master's Degree
  • Knowledge of computers

Salary

Commensurate with education, training and experience
