Tuskegee University annual homecoming celebration will look different this year, due to the current pandemic; but for our Tuskegee University family and community we’re continuing to celebrate each other – just like old times. This year, Tuskegee will host a virtual three-day event that will include many of our classic traditions that provide excitement, engagement and of course the Tuskegee experience. Although we are unable to meet in-person this year, we hope the virtual format will allow many more alumni and friends from all over the world to join us this year.
In keeping with our homecoming tradition, Tuskegee native and 1970 graduate Tom Joyner will serve as the virtual homecoming marshal. Joyner, former radio host of the nationally syndicated Tom Joyner Morning Show and founder of BlackAmericaWeb.com, REACH Media Inc., and the Tom Joyner Foundation, has raised over $65 million dollars in support of students at Historically Black Colleges & Universities.
Some of our virtual events will include a roundtable discussion with our legacy students, an All Black Party with DJ Kid Capri and a virtual homecoming half-time show featuring the Marching Crimson Piper Band. All virtual events will take place via live stream through our online events platform, Facebook and YouTube accounts. To take part in each virtual homecoming event be sure to register ahead.
On Thursday, Oct. 22, at 6 p.m. CST, watch the live coronation of the 23rd Mister Tuskegee University, MarQuise Fletcher and the 91st Miss Tuskegee University, Skylar Rugley, and the Royal Court. This tradition honors the legacy of former kings and queens that have come before them.
On Friday, Oct. 23, at 5 p.m. CST, President Lily D. McNair will provide updates in a live State of The University address followed by a question and answer session with members of the executive cabinet.
Other highlights will include serval panel discussions that’s sure to address the nation’s most pressing topics such as: COVID-19, voting in America and the Black Lives Matter movement. Homecoming is a great time for alumni, students, parents, faculty, staff and the community to show their Tuskegee spirit. Join us this year from wherever you are, to celebrate a fun-filled week of virtual events. To view the schedule of homecoming events, visit events.tuskegee.edu.
