Leadership and Excellence by Tuskegee University Students (LET US)

Tuskegee University is excited to launch the Leadership and Excellence by Tuskegee University Students (LET US) Academy for STEM majors. An increasing number of jobs require well-trained individuals with a background in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). Increasingly, employers are concerned about the lack of “soft skills” or employability skills for individuals in STEM and others areas. The LET US Academy will provide students with skills that enable individuals to create stakeholder momentum, share and sell ideas, function in teams, develop business acumen, develop leadership skills and navigate across a complex matrix of global organizations that bring value to the workplace.

The LET US Academy introduces first semester college students to self-knowledge and interpersonal awareness to facilitate and empower the potential of individuals through enhanced understanding of factors such as Goal Setting and Goal Achievement, Communicating Effectively with Others, Developing Habits for Excellence, Building on Strengths and Purpose, Managing Priorities and Stress, and Achieving Excellence with Integrity, all hallmarks of great leaders.

COURSES AND EXPERIENCES

COURSE 1: University Orientation (OREN 100)

COURSE 2: Introductory STEM Course (Varies by major; for instance, students majoring in Animal and Veterinary Sciences will enroll in the Orientation to Animal, Poultry and Veterinary Sciences (APSC 100) while students majoring in Chemistry would enroll in General Chemistry I (CHEM 230)).

EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING PROJECT: Following the completion of these courses, students complete an experiential learning project to apply the skills learned as a part of the LET US Academy.

Upon completion of all courses and experiences, the Leadership and Excellence by Tuskegee University Students experience will automatically be reflected on students’ transcripts. Additionally, students will be invited to a LET US Academy ceremony where paper certificates will be provided. If students are unable to attend the ceremony, the certificate will be mailed to them.
