Food Animal

The Food Animal service focuses on medical and surgical diseases of the individual animal as well as herd health management. Our faculty members work with farmers in Alabama to provide routine services and consultative herd visits to cattle, goats, and sheep and swine operations. Faculty are involved in disease diagnostics, prevention, and therapy; basic epidemiologic principles for investigating disease outbreaks; the practical aspects of animal husbandry, including the structure and functioning of the food animal industry and the interpretation of on-farm animal health records; and the planning, implementation and analysis of food animal research.
