All activities involving animals must be conducted in accordance with humane and ethical principles established through federal laws, regulations, and guidelines. Tuskegee University has an Animal Welfare Assurance Number on file from the Office of Laboratory Animal Welfare (OLAW), and, therefore, follows the Public Health Service (PHS) Policy on the Humane Care and Use of Laboratory Animals. The IACUC is the primary authority on campus for all matters to animal care and use. The IACUC requires the Attending Veterinarian, who serves as a member on the committee, to enforce policies established by the committee for animal care and use.

*The Animal Care & Use Committee regular scheduled meeting date is the last Friday of each month except December. All protocol forms must be submitted a minimum of 10 working days before the committee's regular scheduled meeting. Any application submitted after that deadline is generally reviewed in next month's meeting. Applications received by 4:30 p.m. on the deadline date will be considered for discussion at IACUC's Committee meeting that month. Otherwise, it will be reviewed the next month.
