Tuskegee University Again Leads Social Mobility in U.S. News & World Report Rankings No. 1 HBCU in the State of Alabama

BTW statueTUSKEGEE, ALABAMA — Tuskegee University continues to mark a path for academic excellence and providing students the tools they need to succeed after graduation. The 2025 U.S. News & World Report rankings show it remains the top school for Social Mobility in the South and the No. 1 HBCU in Alabama.
 
The annual report issued Tuesday, continues to show that Tuskegee is making an impact in the lives of students who may face financial challenges and are often the first in their immediate family to graduate from college.
 
“Our commitment to provide our students the academic and financial resources to ensure they leave Tuskegee with a degree and experience to enter the workforce prepared is our singular mission,” said Dr. Mark A. Brown, President and CEO. “We train students to solve the world’s most complex problems and they choose Tuskegee with the expectation that they will be competitive in the field of their choice.”
 
“All of the rankings deserve mentioning but none is more important to the core Tuskegee Mission than Social and Economic Mobility,” said Dr. Mark A. Brown, President and CEO.  “We exist to increase social and economic mobility of those who chose our school and that of their families. From the time Booker T. Washington broke ground, we have taken a practical approach to education.
 
“We educate and train the Hand, Heart, and Mind. By doing so, we reduce the gap between the classroom and work,” said Dr. Brown. “The work and fields we focus on are those needed in skills and capability in the country today. The result is social and economic mobility for our students and their families. We train students to solve the world’s most complex problems and they choose Tuskegee with the expectation that they will be competitive in the field of their choice.”  
 
In the 2025 rankings, Tuskegee University is recognized in a variety of areas.

  • No. 1 in Social Mobility - Regional Universities (South)
  • No. 4 Historically Black Colleges and Universities
  • No. 7 in Most Innovative Schools – Regional Universities (South) (tied)
  • No. 9 Undergraduate Teaching Programs – Regional Universities (South) (tied)
  • No. 10 in Overall Rank - Regional Universities (South)
  
Tuskegee is the top HBCU in the state of Alabama and received the No. 10 Overall Ranking in Regional Universities in the south, which is higher than all other regional universities in the state.
 
U.S. News & World Report leverages a variety of indicators, including student outcomes, in its rankings. These rankings highlight the outstanding dedication of our faculty and staff in developing and executing innovative student success programs, such as the Students’ First initiative. They also reflect our institution's unwavering commitment to enhancing academic programs that yield meaningful and measurable improvements in student achievement.
 
The U.S. News rankings are based on a thorough methodology that includes factors such as graduation and retention rates, social mobility, graduate indebtedness, and peer assessment. Tuskegee’s strong performance in these areas reflects its investment in faculty, resources, and student success.
