Tuskegee University is acknowledged as the nation's No. 1 'Top Performer for Social Mobility' by U.S. News & World Report. This accolade celebrates the University's unparalleled success in advancing social mobility by supporting economically disadvantaged students.
The 'Top Performer on Social Mobility' category evaluates how well schools graduated students who received federal Pell Grants, which typically go to those with annual family incomes below $50,000. Institutions like Tuskegee University are recognized for their commitment to enrolling Pell Grant students and ensuring their path to graduation, a critical factor in enabling significant strides in social advancement.
"This number one ranking is a testament to Tuskegee University's enduring commitment to unlocking the potential within each student," said President Charlotte P. Morris. "Education is the most powerful tool for economic advancement. Our mission is to ensure that every student, regardless of their economic background, has access to a transformative education that leads to a lifetime of success."
Tuskegee University's success in promoting social mobility underscores the institution's ongoing dedication to providing equitable academic achievement and economic prosperity opportunities. By creating a nurturing environment tailored to the needs of disadvantaged students, the University has fostered a culture where barriers are overcome, and aspirations are reached.
The methodology for the social mobility ranking, as detailed by U.S. News & World Report, considers the graduation rates of Pell Grant recipients compared to non-Pell Grant recipients, recognizing universities that are most successful in helping economically disadvantaged students earn their degrees.
