Some Tuskegee University students living in Younge Hall were moved into Lewis Adams Hall on Monday after flooding occurred in their residence hall.
An air handler, which was installed more than a year ago to support the HVAC system, failed on Monday. A clogged floor drain failed, which caused flooding in rooms of 21 students. Crews were dispatched to come in with wet vacuums and blowers to remove the water and begin drying out the damaged area in Younge.
University staff helped students move their belongings into Lewis Adams Hall, where most renovations are completed. The students will spend the rest of the semester in Lewis Adams Hall. Additional students from Younge and other areas will be moved into Lewis Adams soon.
“Lewis Adams Hall is recently renovated with increased security features such as swipe access and additional 24/7 camera coverage. The newly renovated facility provides increased square footage per living resident, group study space, and several other amenities,” said Dr. Mark A. Brown, President and CEO. “This unfortunate maintenance challenge provides an opportunity to improve the living conditions for 21 of our scholars. In the meantime, we will continue to repair and improve the living conditions in Younge Hall as well."
Teams remained on campus late Monday assessing repairs on the mechanical system and air handlers. They added additional dehumidifiers Monday night and have additional equipment expected Tuesday morning.
