After a national search that included several rounds of interviews with a variety of stakeholders, Tuskegee University is proud to announce Dr. Warren L. Williams as the new Tuskegee University Band Director.
An accomplished music education leader, Dr. Williams received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Alabama State University. He received his doctorate in music education from Liberty University.
Dr. Williams will be responsible for the Marching Crimson Piper Band, the Pep Band, the Concert Band and other ensembles.
“I am thrilled about leading the talented Marching Crimson Pipers and growing the band into a powerhouse that we know they can be,” said Dr. Williams. “I look forward to recruiting new members to welcome them to the first HBCU band in the country.”
Dr. Williams is known for infusing creativity and proven expertise, which will elevate the Tuskegee band program to new heights. He is known for doubling band memberships and securing student scholarships.
“We are so excited that Dr. Williams is joining the Tuskegee family,” said Reginald Ruffin, Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics and Athletic Director. “Our students are talented, disciplined musicians, and they will benefit tremendously from the experience, leadership, and championship mindset he brings to our campus. Dr. Williams understands the rich legacy of Tuskegee University and the role our band plays in shaping culture, school pride, and the total student experience. We look forward to his arrival and are confident he will elevate the Tuskegee University Band to new heights of excellence.”
Tuskegee included current band students, previous band members, members of Kappa Kappa Psi, Tau Beta Sigma, band alumni, a former band director, current Crimson Pipers, past and present drum majors and Dr. Wayne Barr, Associate Professor of Music and Director of Choral Activities in the interview process.
“The university wanted to ensure that key stakeholders had a voice in the process,” said Dr. Mark A. Brown, President and CEO. “We think Dr. Williams will bring new life to the band and with that grow and elevate the experience for our band members.”
Dr. Williams will start his tenure on Jan. 5.
