Biscuits graphic announcing Tuskegee Community NightWhen the Montgomery Biscuits suit up on Thursday and Sunday, they will temporarily be named the Montgomery Peanut Runners in honor of George Washington Carver Legacy Night.
Dr. Mark A. Brown, President and CEO, is warming up his pitch to get ready for Tuskegee Community Night at 6:35 p.m. on Thursday at Montgomery Riverwalk Stadium, 200 Coosa St., where he will throw out the first pitch.
“I am looking forward to showing my skills,” said Dr. Brown. “It’s been a while since I’ve had to throw a first pitch, so I’m looking forward to it. I am excited about what the team has in store for us and grateful for their partnership and honoring George Washington Carver. I am encouraging everyone who can to come out on Thursday and enjoy the game.”
The Peanut Runners’ name and branding will pay homage to the innovative work that Dr. Carver performed with peanuts, as well as the “runner” variety of peanut grown in Alabama. The collection will feature on-field caps and jerseys to be worn on Thursday, Aug. 28th and Sunday, 31.
On Thursday, the game will feature an adult replica jersey giveaway for the first 1,000 fans aged 15 years and older. On Sunday, a youth jersey giveaway will be presented by Dentistry for Children for the first 500 fans ages 14 and under.
“With each of our alternate identities we try to create a fun brand and logo that can also make a connection with the greater Montgomery community,” said Biscuits GM Mike Murphy.  “The Peanut Runners identity has given us the opportunity to broaden our relationship with the Tuskegee community, while also reaching high school students in the River Region.”

Tuskegee University family and friends are invited to come out and enjoy the special night.

The university will be represented by the Choir Singing the National Anthem, the TU ROTC Color Guard will provide a Tuskegee Airmen salute.
“The TU College of Agriculture, Environment and Nutrition Sciences is excited to partner with the Montgomery Biscuits in celebrating the legacy of GWC who transformed agriculture in Alabama, the nation and beyond,” said Dr. Olga Bolden-Tiller, Dean and Research Director of the College of Agriculture, Environment and Nutrition Sciences. “We are especially so, as we commemorate the 135th anniversary signing of the Second Morrill Act establishing Tuskegee University as a land-grant institution.”
Along with the new team identity, the Biscuits have worked with Tuskegee University to build a program targeted toward high school Career Technical Organizations. These organizations will create a variety of projects highlighting Dr. Carver’s work, and the impact that it still has on today’s modern careers.  The program was piloted at Pike Road High School in Spring 2024 and will be available for all River Region high school programs to participate this fall.
“We are thrilled that this collaboration will provide internship opportunities for Tuskegee University students beginning in the Fall of 2025,” said Walter Cooper, Director of Career Education/Leadership Development Center. “We look forward to creating a pipeline for future careers in major league baseball for TU graduates.”
