Pedestrian gate on campus with security upgrade1The Department of Public Safety has completed significant enhancements that continue to strengthen campus safety and tighten controls to on-campus access, and more progress will begin next month.

“Tuskegee’s Renaissance Era has ushered in a safer, smarter future where learning thrives and safety is a priority,” said Dr. Mark A. Brown, president and CEO. “Investments to increase the layers and rigor around the university’s security protocol will continue to exemplify our steadfast commitment to safety.”

Digitally-managed automated barriers have been installed at all major vehicular access points across campus. The most recent installations include all pedestrian access gates along Old Montgomery Road, which now require key card access for both entry and exit, ensuring controlled pedestrian movement.

New vehicle access control points have also been completed at Logan Hall, the stadium entrance, and Armstrong Hall. These access points are being equipped with digital video surveillance cameras, enabling 24-hour monitoring and situational awareness.

Other gates with security upgrades“We remain laser focused on supporting a proactive, modern, and comprehensive public safety framework for the campus community,” said Frank Lee, Director of the Department of Public Safety, who shared more on additional improvements soon to get underway including:

  • Installation of motorized vehicular and pedestrian gates at the College of Veterinary Medicine, encompassing both pedestrian and vehicle access points.
  • Motorization of a dedicated delivery access gate servicing the Chick-fil-A restaurant to ensure secure and efficient operations.

  • Launch of a campus-wide integrated video surveillance platform, providing a centralized and comprehensive view of campus activity.

These projects will significantly enhance Tuskegee University’s security posture and further support a proactive, modern, and comprehensive public safety framework for the campus community.
