Dr. Mark A. Brown, President and CEO, and First Lady Gwen Brown recently had the honor of providing the keynote address in celebration of the 20th anniversary of PowerWright Technologies, led by alumnus Jaimie Wright. Wright, the Founder, President, and CEO of PowerWright, has known Dr. Brown for 43 years and Dr. Brown considers him a dear friend.

Wright is a proud Tuskegee University Electrical Engineering graduate, Class of 1988, and a living testament to the success Tuskegee cultivates on its campus.

Over two decades, PowerWright has grown from a one‑person operation into a national engineering force serving major utilities across the country. PowerWright clients now include Florida Power and Light as well as Southern Company (Georgia and Alabama Power). A true family enterprise, the company is powered by his wife Lenora, his son Justin, an engineer, and his daughter Brianna, a CPA.

His journey reflects the essence of what Tuskegee’s Renaissance Era truly means – Tuskegee willPowerWright CEO continue in its legacy of preparing students to harness the skills to excel in the workforce, ensure generational economic mobility, and improve the world around them.

Statistics show:

  • 20% of small businesses fail in the first year
  • 65% fail within ten years
  • Only 1 in 5 make it to 20 years

And for a minority‑owned engineering firm, those odds are even steeper. But Wright—raised on the West Side of Chicago, forged by grit, faith, and determination—beat the odds. And then he rewrote them.

Wright embodies the best of what Mother Tuskegee instills – courage, excellence, leadership and service. He has been a loyal alumnus, a sponsor of the Tuskegee Alumni Golf Tournament, and a model of values-driven entrepreneurship.

His story reminds us—and the nation—that Tuskegee graduates continue to solve the world’s mostDr. Brown and Wife complex engineering challenges of our time.

And as remarkable as these 20 years have been, the best is yet to come.
