Tuskegee University students and the community have been enjoying Chick-fil-A sandwiches and their signature lemonade for a couple of weeks since the black and white cow first welcomed everyone to campus at Lincoln Gates. But Thursday marked the official opening.
“You don’t do anything that’s of great value to Tuskegee alone,” said Dr. Mark A. Brown, President and CEO. “Everybody has been working collectively to get the Chick-fil-A open."
“We are one with the community. We want to grow the university, but we want to grow Macon County and Tuskegee, Alabama also,” he said. “What’s unique about this Chick-fil-A is that it is a full-service Chick-fil-A. Sometimes on a campus it’s a satellite store with a limited menu. The only exception may be soup, but you can get everything else here. This Chick-fil-A is for the students and the community.”
Tuskegee Mayor Tony Haygood thanked the university for the community partnership.
“It’s a great day as we see the university expanding and reaching out to the community” he said. “The community has been waiting for this. We want to thank the university because this enhances the university and the entire community.”
Dr. Rolundus Rice, Vice President of Student Affairs and Chief Operating Officer agreed.
“This is the ultimate shining symbol of hard work – the university, Chick-fil-A, SodexoMagic and the City of Tuskegee,” he said. “This is a sign of the ultimate success of us strengthening the town and gown community.”
