Each year, this initiative recognizes those HBCUs with exceptional engagement with the Fulbright Program, the U.S. government's flagship international academic exchange program.

Fulbright HBCU Institutional Leaders demonstrate noteworthy support for Fulbright exchange participants and encourage administrators, faculty, and students at HBCUs to engage with Fulbright on campus. The Fulbright HBCU Institutional Leaders initiative highlights HBCU alumni and faculty excellence, as well as HBCUs as a destination for international students and scholars.

“Tuskegee University is training students to solve the world’s most complex problems,” said Dr. Mark A. Brown, President and CEO. “Our focus on educating students from around the globe fits naturally with the mission of the Fulbright program. That experience for our students and faculty exposes them to opportunities that have a global impact.”

Tuskegee University introduces students to international study through internships and global programs. Dr. Rhonda Collier is a Fulbright liaison, director of Tuskegee Global Office and English Professor.

“As a two-time Fulbright awardee, it is an honor to have Tuskegee University recognized as a leader in international research and teaching. Our faculty and students are leading the way in international outreach,” Dr. Collier.

Earlier this year, Dr. Olga Bolden-Tiller, dean of the College of Agriculture, Environment and Nutrition Sciences participated in the first Fulbright International Education Cohort dedicated to HBCUs and it was took place in two countries.

“This opportunity to become a “Fulbrighter” was transformative for me,” she said. “To have Tuskegee University again named as a Fulbright HBCU International Leader is a testament to the international work in which the institution has been involved for over 100 years.”
The Provost and Senior Vice President of Academic Affairs agrees.

“The Fulbright program constitutes an essential cornerstone in international diplomacy,” said Dr. Thierno Thiam. “This is why an institution such as Tuskegee University with a stellar history of bold international engagement is uniquely suited to lead once again.”

The Fulbright Program is the U.S. government's flagship international educational exchange program.
