History of the Annual Farmers Conference

The Farmers Conference at Tuskegee University holds a deeply rooted legacy in agricultural history. Established on February 23, 1892, and originally known as the “Peoples Conference,” it was founded to provide Black farmers and rural families with practical education, resources, and a platform to share innovations in agriculture and community development. Today, it remains one of the oldest continuous events of its kind in the nation, continuing to uphold Tuskegee’s land-grant mission of advancing sustainable farming, rural prosperity, and community empowerment
