About Us

Three students wearing safety goggles work collaboratively at a laboratory table filled with glassware and scientific equipment.

The College of Agriculture, Environment and Nutrition Sciences (CAENS) at Tuskegee University integrates teaching, research, and extension to foster academic excellence and community engagement. CAENS prepares students for leadership roles in agriculture, natural resources, environmental sciences, and human nutrition while supporting small farmers and sustainable food systems.

Our programs encourage innovation, ethical practice, and scientific inquiry that promote food security, rural development, and environmental stewardship across Alabama and beyond.

Our Legacy

Historical Legacy of CAENS

The legacy of CAENS traces back to the founding of Tuskegee University by Booker T. Washington in 1881 and the transformative research of Dr. George Washington Carver. Their vision emphasized hands-on agricultural education, self-sufficiency, and the use of science to improve the lives of farmers and communities.

Today, CAENS honors this tradition through progressive teaching and research programs that continue to advance agricultural innovation and address challenges in sustainability, health, and environmental change.
