Tuskegee University Cooperative Extension welcomes Gladys E. Hlorgbe as a Family, Home, and Consumer Sciences / Community Development Agent II serving Dallas, Perry, and Hale counties.

In this role, Hlorgbe works to learn the unique strengths and needs of each community while preparing to deliver programming in nutrition and wellness, family and youth development, and community engagement.

“I am building relationships with residents, local leaders, and partner organizations to ensure Extension programs are practical, inclusive, and responsive to the people we serve,” Hlorgbe said.

Before joining Tuskegee University Cooperative Extension, Hlorgbe completed dual master’s degrees in nutrition and public health at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. She also served as a Graduate Teaching Assistant in Nutrition and as a University of Tennessee Extension Family and Consumer Sciences Intern, where she supported community needs assessments, program planning, and other initiatives in Tennessee.

In her native Ghana, Hlorgbe worked as a Registered Dietitian at the 37 Military Hospital in Accra, where she provided medical nutrition therapy and health education to patients and families.

Hlorgbe said she enjoys learning about people and walking alongside them as they work toward healthier lives.

“I value the conversations that happen in community centers, churches, and schools where trust is built and education becomes meaningful,” she said. “I am excited to help connect Extension research to everyday life in ways that strengthen families and communities.”

Originally from Ghana, Hlorgbe enjoys sharing her culture through food. She loves preparing traditional West African dishes and exploring ways to make them healthier while preserving their history and flavor.

She is also passionate about volunteering with faith-based initiatives that promote growth and resilience. Her commitment to service first took root as a child in Ghana and continues to guide her work in Extension education.

Hlorgbe earned a Bachelor of Science in Clinical Nutrition and Dietetics from the University of Cape Coast in Ghana. She later completed a Master of Science in Nutrition with a concentration in Public Health Nutrition and a Master of Public Health in Community Health Education from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.

Through her education, professional experience, and dedication to service, Hlorgbe continues to shape her commitment to Extension education, community well-being, and helping families build healthier futures.
