Jasmine Boone: Tuskegee Graduate Turns Perseverance Into a Published Children's Book

2021 animal science graduate encourages young readers to dream big through "The Littlest Jaguar"

Jasmine Boone, a 2021 graduate of Tuskegee University with a master's in animal science, is a published author of a children's book. "The Littlest Jaguar" is about a little jaguar that learns the lessons of dreaming big through courage, patience, and bravery.

Boone experienced these principles while completing her master's and pursuing veterinary school.

"My motivation for writing the book was to encourage myself while I was completing my master's and pursuing veterinary school," Boone said. "I have always been an avid reader. Telling and writing stories is something that I've always done."

Currently, Boone lives in Tallahassee and works as an Assistant Regional Director at a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing educational, residential, and support services for children and adolescents with developmental disabilities, including autism.

In Boone's current position, her book is a blessing because it can be used to assist with the individuals she works with. "The story reminds children that every stumble is part of growing, and every climb begins with believing in yourself," said Boone. "This is just the first one, and I have countless notebooks of stories that have yet to be published."

The book is perfect for children ages 4–8, but the storyline encourages perseverance, courage, and self-belief for anyone. It is great for bedtime, classrooms, and library story time.
