Security Screening and Policies

All attendees will be subject to mandatory security screening prior to boarding shuttle buses and again upon entry into each venue. Screening procedures will include the use of walk-through metal detectors and handheld wands.

Only clear bags will be permitted inside all commencement venues, with no exceptions. Diaper bags are permitted but will be inspected. Prohibited items include weapons of any kind, balloons, flowers, large signs, banners, noise-making devices such as whistles, cowbells, airhorns, and confetti poppers, as well as any other disruptive paraphernalia.

Animals are not permitted, with the exception of approved service animals. Advance notice must be provided to the Tuskegee University Police Department for any service animals attending the commencement ceremony.

Medical Services and Emergency Response

Haynes Ambulance Service will provide two on-site medical units, with one unit stationed at Chappie James Arena and the second positioned in the Logan Hall area to respond to medical needs. In the event of an air medical emergency, the designated helicopter landing zone will be located in front of Logan Hall. Ambulance services will remain on-site until released by the Chief of Police or a designated representative.

Nearby medical facilities include East Alabama Medical Center located at 2000 Pepperell Parkway in Opelika, Alabama, and Baptist Medical Center East located at 400 Taylor Road in Montgomery, Alabama.

Facility Guidelines and Safety Protocols

Stroller parking will be located outside Chappie James Arena. All strollers must be clearly labeled with identifying information. Tuskegee University assumes no responsibility for lost, stolen, or damaged property. Water stations will be available throughout the arena, and a designated area within the venue will be established to address medical emergencies.

For the safety of faculty, staff, and graduates, access to the arena floor will not be permitted during or after the commencement ceremony. Upon completion of the ceremony, all attendees must exit the venue promptly.
