The allocation, which is part of a recurring quarterly gift to the university, continues a decades-long tradition of investment in higher education and community impact.

“Tuskegee University is proud of partnerships like this, which support our students while strengthening the community in which we serve,” said Dr. Mark A. Brown, President and CEO.  “This investment in our students underscores the deep ties between Tuskegee University and the Macon County community. Together, we are ensuring that the next generation of leaders is equipped to carry forward the legacy of innovation, service, and excellence that defines Tuskegee. This is how we honor our past… while investing in our future.”

The Macon County Racing Commission was established by the Alabama Legislature in 1983 with the creation of Victoryland Greyhound Park. Through this legislation, funding was designated to support 14 local agencies, including Tuskegee University. Portions of the proceeds were directed to education, community programs, and Macon County’s senior services, including schools such as Notasulga High School and Booker T. Washington High School. The legislation was championed by the late Rep. Thomas Reed, whose vision helped ensure long-term community benefits.

“This support reflects the commission’s belief in the power of education to transform lives,” said Christopher Ford, attorney for the Macon County Racing Commission. “Since its inception, we’ve been committed to ensuring that residents and students have the opportunity to attend one of the nation’s best historically Black colleges and universities — Tuskegee University.”

Tommy Robinson, chairperson of the Macon County Racing Commission, added, “This donation is a continuation of Booker T. Washington’s legacy of educating our own. We are proud to sustain his vision by investing directly in Tuskegee’s students.”

The $83,000 allocation will provide critical scholarship assistance for Tuskegee students and strengthen resources that directly support student success.
