Exert Camp is a transformative, week-long summer experience designed to empower rising 5th–8th grade students through education, exploration, and personal development. Hosted at beautiful Camp Chandler, the program immerses youth in hands-on learning, outdoor adventure, and life-skill building activities that spark curiosity and confidence.

Through themed workshops in agriculture, money management, culinary arts, water quality, wellness, and leadership, participants strengthen their minds and bodies while discovering new interests and abilities. Campers enjoy a supportive environment guided by trained counselors, faculty mentors, and Tuskegee University Cooperative Extension professionals who encourage teamwork, resilience, and growth.

Exert Camp is committed to shaping tomorrow’s change-makers by offering a safe space where youth can explore their potential, build lifelong friendships, and return home inspired to lead in their schools and communities.

Overview

 

Exert Camp is a dynamic, hands-on summer experience designed to challenge, inspire, and empower students. Participants engage in team-building, leadership development, academic enrichment, outdoor learning, and college/career exposure. Through workshops, labs, and interactive sessions, campers develop confidence, communication skills, and a mindset for success—while building friendships and having fun.

 

Program Experience

 

Campers spend six days at Camp Chandler engaged in hands-on activities designed to strengthen their minds, bodies, and character. Scholars learn, explore, and work together while being supported by trained counselors and instructors.

 The is a participant fee of $100 

Application Deadline

 

All applications must be submitted by April 21, 2026. Early registration is recommended due to limited capacity.

Who can attend Exert Camp?

Exert Camp is open to rising 5th–8th grade students who are interested in leadership, academics, teamwork, outdoor learning, and personal growth.

Where is the camp held?

Exert Camp is hosted at Camp Chandler (1240 Jordan Dam Rd, Wetumpka, AL), as well as designated activity sites selected by Tuskegee University Cooperative Extension.

Is housing or meals provided?

Yes. Campers receive housing, breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks, and drinks as part of the camp experience. All meals are included in the camp fee.

Do campers need special equipment?

No special equipment is required. Campers should bring only personal essentials such as clothing, toiletries, and any approved personal items. All activity materials and supplies are provided.

What is included in the camp fee?

The $100 camp fee includes:

  • Exert Camp T-shirt

  • All learning materials and activity supplies
  • Hands-on workshops and interactive programming

What are the camp dates?

Exert Camp will be held June 7–13, 2026.

Become a Counselor

Counselors play a vital role in shaping the camp experience. They assist instructors, lead group activities, mentor students, and ensure safety and inclusion. High-energy undergraduate students, graduate students, alumni, and qualified young professionals are encouraged to apply. Training is provided, along with leadership development, networking opportunities, and community service experience.

Eligibility

 

Exert Camp is open to rising 5th–8th grade students who are eager to learn, grow, and participate in hands-on activities that promote leadership, wellness, and personal development.

To be eligible, participants must:

  • Be entering grades 5–8 in the upcoming school year
  • Be able to attend the full camp session from June 7–13, 2026
  • Demonstrate interest in leadership, academics, outdoor learning, or personal growth
  • Submit a completed registration form and any required documentation

Exert Camp welcomes students from all backgrounds and encourages participation from youth who are excited to explore new experiences, build confidence, and engage in positive, structured enrichment.
