Dr. Charlotte P. Morris, Interim President of Tuskegee University, welcomed the new freshman class and other first-year students to Tuskegee University during her first presidential address to students Sunday in the University Chapel. Hundreds of faculty, staff, administrators, community members, parents and other students also attended the morning service.

Tuskegee University was recently ranked the No. 5 HBCU (Historically Black Colleges and Universities) in the nation and No. 1 in the state of Alabama by U.S. News and World Report. The institution elevated to the No. 5 spot from No. 6 and maintained its top ranking in the state.

The ExxonMobil Foundation recently provided Tuskegee University with a grant check in the amount of $62,625. The gift represents the company's three-to-one match of donations made to the University by ExxonMobil employees, retirees and surviving spouses under the Foundation's 2010 Educational Matching Gift Program.

Lawrence McRae, a Tuskegee resident and prostate cancer awareness advocate was recently featured on the Today Show on NBC on Tuesday, Aug. 17. McRae was chosen by AARP for their special segment, "Your Life is Calling." Popular anchorwoman Jane Pauley conducted the interview earlier this summer on the Tuskegee University campus and in the city.

Patrick W. Mardis Sr. was recently appointed as the new Chief of Police and director of the Tuskegee University Police and Security Department, effective Aug. 15.  In this position, Mardis will report and be responsible to the President of the University, through the Director of Resources Management, for the overall task of organizing and supervising the University's total police, safety and security program.
