Environmental, Natural Resource and Plant Sciences

History

Under the direction and vision of Dr. B.D. Mayberry, the Tuskegee University two-plus-two Pre-Forestry (later Natural Resources) Program was founded in partnership with the U.S. Forest Service and Michigan University. The program was designed for students to complete their fundamental studies at Tuskegee and transfer to Michigan University in the final two years. Later, students would stay on for a professional master’s degree, thus an additional year was added to the program.

Today, the Forestry, Wildlife and Fisheries Program (3+1+1) has many partner universities and continues to train the next generation of natural resource research scientists. Students spend three years at Tuskegee University before transferring to a host university for their senior year and later graduate studies. Approximately 90% of our program undergraduates continue to pursue professional or graduate degrees.

Statement of Purpose

The Tuskegee University Forestry, Wildlife, and Fisheries program's mission is to develop and empower the next generation of leaders in forest ecology and natural resource management. We provide a comprehensive foundation in natural resource management studies, scientific research, and cultural perspectives, preparing students to address the complex environmental challenges of the 21st century.
